Prague - Czech it out!Posted in: Blog, European Holiday, Featured

Christmas in Prague…

24 Dec 09:00. After 30 hours of traveling i have finally arrived in Prague. It is incredibly colder than i had imagined, still wearing the pink t-shirt that i started my journey in sunny Melbourne with, i moved through the sliding airport doors into the cold, bleek and dreary world of Europe in Winter. I decided to get a jacket out of my bag for fear of ‘death by shivering’ and got on the 119 bus to Mala Strana. Overwhelmed by the excitement of Christmas Eve, i quickly overcame my jetlag.

25 Dec. 04:30. Christmas Day 2008! Spending Christmas in Europe, how amazing, we didn’t have a white Christmas but that’s not to say it wasn’t a cold one. I think yesterdays maximum temperature was 3 degrees and with only around 7 hours of daylight at this time of year it gets even colder at night. It was really interesting, i thought that the locals would make the most of the few hours of day light that they have but it seems that no one is even awake until midday. The shops are busiest at night. By 16:00 (4pm) it is already pitch black and all the streets are lit up with fairy lights. Old fashion lanterns lign the streets while the smell of mulled wine steams through the air. The furry feel of my jacket, gloves and scarf coupled with the winding cobble stoned streets makes me feel like i’m in the middle of a Charles Dickens Novel. I always knew I had an addictive personality, but i can’t believe how much Goulash i have eaten. I just love it!

Looking forward to going ice skating tomorrow, i fill you in on how i go. I went roller skating in Sunshine with my little sister before i left, just so i wouldn’t humiliate myself when i got on to an ice rink. I don’t like my chances though…

Around Prague - Ice Skating

We were doubting that people ever played sport in Czech.
