50 cm of Snow in DresdenPosted in: Blog, European Holiday

We have now spent 12 days in Prague and are about to move on to explore the rest of Europe. Our next stop is Dresden and we are making our journey by train. The transport system throughout most of Europe is exceptional and i would highly recommend it. We arrived in Dresden and made our way to our hostel, after a long walk dragging our cases along a freezing cold pavement almost breaking our cases wheels we hoped quickly into bed…

…50 cm of snow had fallen outside over night…

We were going to head off to the centre of Dresden to see the Masters exhibition and the newly constructed centre piece of Dresden, ‘The church of our lady’. Most of Dresden was destroyed in 1945 when the British retaliated to an attack by the Nazi’s in 1945. The British created a complete firestorm and killed almost 80,000 civilians as well as destroying a remarkable town that had once been the capital of the Saxon empire in Europe. This 1250 year old town was destroyed and lay in ruins for much of it’s years under control of the East. The day was exciting and extremly interesting. Tomorrow we are heading to Meissen to discover the origins of this world famous porcelain and explore the factory.

Last but not least… Check out this snow man we made!

Where the world will be in 50 years

The internet is by far the most significant advancement since the point that we first rose on two feet and were classifed as Homo Erectus. I say that with seriousness, some of you traditional thinkers may suggest things like Nobel’s gunpowder or Da Vinci’s anatomyical observations are far greater advances, but I would disagree. [more]
